An adjuster is usually responsible for making an offer to settle a claim. The adjuster does this based on his or her own settlement authority or after receiving the necessary authority from a supervisor or manager on the offer that is being made.
An insurance investigator gathers information, data and records. The investigator can take statements from witnesses and engage in other activities that may be necessary in order to provide insight to the company on the claim. Some insurance companies commonly use investigators to film or video the policyholder as part of the claims investigation.
